I've noticed that most of the surfers who land up on this site have come via the alumni site so it's only fair that you get something for your efforts other than just me in your face!
So, here it is, an alma mater news page which hopefully will contain news of the alma mater/alumni to be updated periodically.
Also, I can improve this page only with your comments and feedback- for instance would you rather have the news clipping in its present format- ie scanned and put up in its entirety but which makes for a large file and more download time, or would the plain text be sufficient? Your comments can be sent either through my guestbook or mail me at cheriansamuel@india.com . Happy reading! OK, there's been plenty of action happening in JNU- what I'm doing is providing links to Times of India and Hindu news reports about what's been happening there
This event took place during an Indo-Pak 'mushaira' that took place at the OAT behind Kamal Complex. Though initial reports claimed that he claimed to be a major, it later turned out he actually was an army officer.

There's a stalker on the loose in JNU - and as far as the women are concerned, he's more like a ghost than a stalker. He enters womens hostels at will, assaults women and pushes off. This also happens on the roads inside campus, and he proudly informs his victim that he'sa the stalker that everyone's been looking for before assaulting them. The guards have been provided with guns (of World War II vintage) but our fear is that they might shoot us by mistake!Basically, there's such a climate of fear and suspicion on campus that if I put on my psychologist 'cap', I'd say the stalker was partly responsible for the major assault, if you get what I mean

The academic year began with quite a bit of hungama; a gherao resulting in a court order which in turn led to a hunger strike which prompted the VC to call in police who went on to arrest 63 students who got to spend a couple of nights in Tihar jail

A couple of obituary notices; A month back, Aditya Chauhan, a Ph.D student of the Spanish Centre ( and a pretty well-known figure in JNU-he'd stood for election as JNUSU president on the Freethinkers ticket in the mid-nineties)died when the motorbike he was riding on skidded just outside JNU. And just a week back, another ex-JNUite, Suvendu Sen, who'd completed his Ph.D in African Studies and was working for the United News of India was killed on the spot when a bus ran into him while he was riding to work. The traffic in Delhi being what it is, everytime I go out, I'm always grateful to God when I make it back in one piece.
